Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

This looks like a jolly romp.

Trouble-prone Percy Jackson is having problems in high school - but that's the least of his challenges. It's the 21st century, but the gods and monsters (check out Uma Thurman below looking pretty sweet as Medusa) of Mount Olympus seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology texts and into his life. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea, which means Percy is a demigod - half human, half god. At the same time, the powerful gods on Olympus are feuding, which could launch a war enveloping our entire planet. In theaters February 12.

A Single Man

Written and directed by Tom Ford, and based on the Christopher Isherwood novel, 'A Single Man' is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life. In theaters this December, 'A Single Man' stars Julianne Moore and Colin Firth.

Behind the scenes of NINE

Directed by Rob Marshall ('Chicago'), 'NINE' is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), a young American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson) and his mother (Sophia Loren).

The original 1982 Broadway production of 'NINE', nominated for twelve Tony Awards and winning five, including Best Musical, was directed by Tommy Tune, choreographed by Thommie Walsh, starred Raúl Juliá with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Arthur Kopit. The 2003 Broadway revival of 'NINE' received eight Tony Award nominations and won two, including Best Revival of a Musical.

Shakespeare comes to Logo

Logo takes on The Bard with a new interpretation of the classic Shakespeare comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with film festival favorite and award-winning film “Were the World Mine.” One of the most buzz-worthy gay films in years, this playful movie musical will premiere Monday, September 7 on Logo and on LOGOonline.com.

“Were the World Mine” tells the story of Timothy: a bullied gay student at an all-boy private high school struggling to fit in with his peers while helping his mother accept his sexuality. Things seem all the makings of a Shakespearian tragedy for Timothy until the school play is announced by his mystical, bohemian English teacher, Ms. Tebbit (Wendy Robie, Twin Peaks). Timothy is cast as “Puck” in the school’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” allowing him to get closer to his crush Jonathan, a straight jock, who is cast as one of the play’s lead roles.

As an escape from the cruel realities of high school, Timothy transcends into a world of song and spectacle. However, Timothy’s life crosses the boundaries of reality and fantasy when he follows a “Cupid’s love” potion in his script and quickly discovers that anyone sprayed by this mystical potion falls in love with the first person of the same sex they see. Before long, the streets in Timothy’s homophobic town are inundated with lovelorn gay and lesbian couples, creating mayhem amongst his friends, family and neighbors. Both the town and Timothy learn a lesson in tolerance and ultimate acceptance as Timothy tries to repair the mischief he unleashed.

Jennifer's Body - are you into it?

Megan Fox is often portrayed as kind of a slag in the press but I kind of like her. She's unpretentious and she speaks her mind. I also really liked Diablo Cody's 'Juno' and I really, really like gruesome horror movies. All-in-all 'Jennifer's Body', starring Miss Fox as a rampaging sex demon, sounds totally up my alley. It's in theaters September 18.

Lesbian movie ad banned from Facebook?

I've seen more provocative ads in a in Wal-Mart circular. What's Facebook got against cute girls in tank tops? Or is it just lesbians that have been deemed offensive?

John Cena in '12 Rounds'

From the director of 'Die Hard 2' and the producer of 'Speed' comes '12 Rounds', starring every gay guy's favorite professional wrestler John Cena as New Orleans Police Detective Danny Fisher. When Fisher stops a brilliant thief, Miles, from getting away with a multi-million-dollar heist, the thief's girlfriend is accidentally killed. After escaping from prison, the criminal mastermind enacts his revenge, taunting Danny with a series of near-impossible puzzles and tasks ...12 rounds...that Danny must somehow complete to save the life of his fiancee. In theaters March 27.

My favorite thing about John Cena is that he likes to be naked:

'Twilight' and 'Milk' - the two hottest shows in town

Two hot movies are playing in Denver this week, and you probably won't want to miss either one.

'Twilight' has a huge gay fan following, thanks in large part to its sexy star, Rob Pattinson. Gay guys wish he was, and straight girls are glad he's not. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out the show at theaters near you.

And of course, there's 'Milk'. If you don't know who Harvey Milk was, it's time to find out. Not only was he an amazing man, but you might be interested in the parallels between the activism of his time and what's going on today. 'Milk' opens on November 26 in select theaters, including Denver's Mayan Theatre.

The Movies That Missed Us at Starz

It's no easy task pulling together a program of 175-plus films every year for the 11-day cinematic blowout that is the Starz Denver Film Festival. Sometimes, amid the planning and programming, the screenings and selections, a film gets left behind. There are myriad reasons for the omissions: other film festivals' premiere policies come into play; a single print gets booked elsewhere for the dates we want to screen it; distributors devise complex roll-out strategies that don't match our festival dates; the list goes on. The Movies That Missed Us presents four films Keith from Denver Film Society deeply loved but was unable to book at the time of their release. To the best of Keith's knowledge, these films have never screened in Denver-until now.
