BILLY PORTER’S FILM DIRECTORIAL DEBUT ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK OUT TODAY

Republic Records
presents the Anything’s Possible Motion Picture Soundtrack available on Friday July 22, 2022. Anything’s Possible marks the film directorial debut of GRAMMY®, EMMY®, and Tony® Award-winning visionary Billy Porter. The album is available for pre-order/pre-save
HERE today. Anything’s Possible, from MGM’s Orion Pictures, will be available to stream on Prime Video also on July 22.

Beyond directing the critically acclaimed film, Porter notably co-executive produced the Soundtrack with GRAMMY® Award-nominated and Golden Globe® Award-nominated powerhouse superstar songwriter Justin Tranter.

To herald the arrival of the album, Joy Oladokun just shared the powerful, provocative, and poetic single “That’s How God Made Me.” Listen to “That’s How God Made Me”
HERE.

Joy comments on the single, “That’s How God Made Me” is a song about the freedom every single person should feel to be themselves and be cared for. It’s the perfect fit for this movie, particularly because it’s about queer love. On a personal level, it means a lot to me because the trans community often gets overlooked and this movie highlights its acceptance.”

The Soundtrack also features new music from PorterShea DiamondEm BeiholdDNCEMIKAKim PetrasRyland JamesTassia Zappia, and more. Check out the full tracklisting below.

Anything’s Possible, written by Ximena García Lecuona (Satanic Panic, Goatsucker), is Porter’s first foray as a feature film director and stars Eva Reign, Abubakr Ali, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Courtnee Carter, Kelly Lamor Wilson, and Grant Reynolds.

Anything’s Possible is an uplifting and delightfully modern Gen Z coming-of-age story that follows Kelsa, a confident, high school girl who is trans, as she navigates her senior year. When her classmate, nerdy but cute Khal, gets a crush on her, he musters up the courage to ask her out, despite the drama he knows it could cause. What transpires is a high school romance that showcases the joy, tenderness, and pain of young love.a

Pride Live Announces Groundbreaking of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center

Pride Live, a social advocacy and community engagement organization for the LGBTQ+ community, today announced plans to open the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center (SNMVC)Set to be the first LGBTQ+ visitor center within the National Park Service (NPS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior, the center marks a landmark achievement and leap forward in American history. The SNMVC is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024 and will occupy nearly 3,700 square feet at 51 Christopher Street, between Waverly Place and 7th Avenue South in New York City. With support from Google, the groundbreaking ceremony will be livestreamed at YouTube.com/c/pridelive at 10:30AM ET on June 24. For more information, visit www.stonewallvisitorcenter.org

When the Stonewall Rebellion took place on June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn was made up of two locations – 53 Christopher Street, where the current Stonewall Inn bar is located today, and 51 Christopher Street. Located at 51 Christopher Street, the future home of the SNMVC will reunite the historic Stonewall Inn and commemorate the events of the Stonewall Rebellion in their authentic locations.

“The opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is a remarkable moment in the history of Stonewall,” said Ann Marie Gothard, President of the Pride Live Board of Directors. “We honor all those who came before us, most especially the queer people fighting for equality at the Stonewall Rebellion. The designation as a National Monument and the opening of this visitor center will memorialize their important legacy in the gay rights movement, and we hope will inspire future generations to continue fighting for LGBTQ+ equality.”

With a mission to preserve, advance and celebrate the legacy of the Stonewall Rebellion and the Stonewall National Monument, the SNMVC will serve as a beacon for generations to come, providing the unique opportunity to visit the very site where history was made and where the fight for LGBTQ+ equality visibly shifted with new waves of activism. The SNMVC will offer an immersive experience welcoming all people to explore and experience LGBTQ+ history and culture through in-person and virtual tours, lecture series, exhibitions and visual arts displays. In addition, the SNMVC will serve as home base for the dedicated National Park Service Rangers, who are responsible for the preservation of the Stonewall National Monument.

“The designation of Stonewall as a National Monument is an important step in memorializing an invaluable historical landmark that represents courage, hope and triumph for the LGBTQ community,” said Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland. “As President Biden declared in Title VII, ‘every person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear,’ and the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will serve as a place where the LGBTQ community can safely gather to celebrate and commemorate its hard-fought history.”

“The new Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will serve as an important memorial for the Stonewall Uprising, an iconic and pivotal moment in the essential effort to fully realize America’s founding ideal that we are all created equal,” said U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer. “I’m proud New York will be home to the first LGBTQ+ visitor center within the National Park Service, honoring the LGBTQ+ community and their history. As a proud parent of a LGBTQ+ person, I won’t stop fighting against the unprecedented and unjust discrimination the LGBTQ+ community continues to face today.”

Founding supporters of the SNMVC include Google – the first corporate partner to sign on, The Kors Le Pere FoundationJPMorgan Chase & Co., AARP, Target, David Yurman, Amazon, National Football League, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, United TherapeuticsNew York Yankees and global activist and ally Josephine Skriver, who made the inaugural donation to the campaign.

“It’s vital to create safe and inclusive spaces for the LGBTQ community, and we are proud to support the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, a space that will memorialize the legacy of Stonewall,” said William Floyd, Senior Director of Public Policy at Google. “This groundbreaking is a significant moment in LGBTQ history, and we are thrilled to share this remarkable occasion with a global audience through our YouTube livestream.”

Designated by President Barack Obama on June 24, 2016, the Stonewall National Monument includes the 0.19-acre formerly known as Christopher Park and the surrounding streets including Christopher Street adjacent to the park. The Stonewall National Monument is the first U.S. national monument dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights and history.

The journey in recognizing LGBTQ+ history as American history was aided by entrepreneur, philanthropist and LGBTQ+ activist Tim Gill. In 2014, the Gill Foundation recognized a glaring omission of historic LGBTQ sites in the nation’s official records, and the organization made a grant to the National Park Service to commission a first-of-its-kind LGBTQ Theme Study, published in 2016. A separate advocacy campaign to designate the Stonewall National Monument was spearheaded by the National Parks Conservation Association, which worked with elected officials, NPS, historians and community stakeholders, culminating in 2016.

Unsafe in America: Annual GLAAD Accelerating Acceptance Study Finds Sharp Increase in LGBTQ Americans Experience Discrimination

GLAAD, the world's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced the findings of its eighth annual Accelerating Acceptance Study, showing a sharp increase in LGBTQ Americans experiencing discrimination, particularly among queer people of color, transgender and nonbinary people and Gen Z LGBTQ Americans.

A significant majority of the LGBTQ community—70%—says that discrimination has increased over the past two years. They reported discrimination in their daily lives—with family, in the workplace, on social media, in public accommodations, and in interactions with people at their children’s schools.

Read the full report here.

The GLAAD report found more than half (54%) of transgender and nonbinary people feel unsafe walking in their own neighborhoods, compared to 36% of all LGBTQ adults.

LGBTQ people of color are 91% more likely to also experience discrimination based on their race or ethnicity.

2022 Gallup research found more Gen Z Americans are out as LGBTQ (20.8%) than any other generation. GLAAD’s study shows a majority (56%) of Gen Z LGBTQ people are more fearful for their personal safety in 2022 than in the prior two years.

Statement from GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis:

“GLAAD’s research findings are distressing, but not unforeseen. Legislation targeting LGBTQ people and youth, including censorship in classrooms, book bans, bans on evidence-based healthcare and access to school sports, has ballooned since 2020 to nearly 250 bills introduced in statehouses across the nation. Misinformation and false rhetoric from anti-LGBTQ lawmakers has real life consequences and gives a permission slip to discriminate against LGBTQ people and target them, as happened in Idaho with the arrests of white supremacists plotting to attack a Pride event, and the suspect in the mass murder of Black Americans in Buffalo targeting trans people in his ‘manifesto.’ Every LGBTQ person and ally must use this information to speak up and hold elected officials, news media, and social media platforms accountable to actions and rhetoric that make everyone less safe. GLAAD’s study proves a need for The Equality Act that would protect every LGBTQ American, protections supported by a vast majority of all Americans. The Senate must pass it immediately and secure the core value of treating people equally into law.”

Additional findings from GLAAD’s 2022 Accelerating Acceptance Study: “Unsafe in America”:

  • Seven in ten LGBTQ Americans report personally experiencing discrimination, up 11% from a year ago, and up 24% from 2020.

  • 78% of non-LGBTQ adults inaccurately associate the term “LGBTQ” with being mostly about sexual orientation.

  • 61% of Black, Indigenous, and other queer people of color also face discrimination based on their race or ethnicity, compared to 32% of all LGBTQ adults.

  • More Gen Z adults are out as LGBTQ than any previous generation (20.8%), and report higher levels of discrimination over the last two years compared with all LGBTQ people.

  • 79% of LGBTQ people strongly support more federal legislative action to protect them as an LGBTQ person.

As in previous years, respondents for the Accelerating Acceptance Study were asked about their comfortability with LGBTQ people across seven different scenarios: learning a family member is LGBTQ, learning their doctor is LGBTQ, having LGBTQ members at their place of worship, seeing a same-sex couple holding hands, seeing a gay/lesbian co-worker’s wedding picture, having their child placed in a class with a LGBTQ teacher, and learning their child has a lesson on LGBTQ history in school. Year over year, levels of comfortability have remained relatively stable:

  • 29% of non-LGBTQ respondents said that they are or would be 'very' or ‘somewhat’ uncomfortable learning a family member is LGBTQ, similar to 30% in 2020.

  • 28% of non-LGBTQ respondents said that they are or would be 'very' or ‘somewhat’ uncomfortable learning their doctor is LGBTQ, the same percentage as reported in 2020.

  • 27% of non-LGBTQ respondents said that they are or would be 'very' or ‘somewhat’ uncomfortable having LGBTQ members at their place of worship, similar to 26% in 2020.a

AEON STATION celebrates PRIDE with "Queens" video, starring NYC's MargOH! Channing

Taken from their critically acclaimed debut album Observatory which was released December 3, 2021 via Sub Pop, AEON STATION are proud to premiere the video for “QUEENS,” which vocalist/songwriter Kevin Whelan explains, “is to celebrate Pride. The creation of this DIY video came organically with a few mutual friends brainstorming ways to bring the song to life. My wife Mary Ann and I reached out to Bill Shea [a.k.a. close friend and celebrated NYC drag queen MargOH! Channing] to help make the video, where he enlisted his friend, Jorge Urena to film it. The footage was carefully pieced together by our own Lysa Opfer from Aeon Station.”

Advocating self acceptance, the video for “Queens” focuses on the stunning transformation from Bill to the MargOH! and the joy that comes with personal truth. “I was so thrilled when Mary Ann reached out to me about the song ‘Queens’ and creating a video for it,” says MargOH! excitedly.

The origins of the video is one based on the history and friendship of Kevin, Mary Ann and Bill/MargOH! who had been coworkers while Kevin and Mary Ann were dating. After a breakup between the two, Bill proved to be the catalyst that initiated their ultimate reconciliation. “Bill was unknowingly part of Kevin's plan to get us back together,” laughs Mary Ann. "Kevin asked Bill to deliver some gifts to me. I wouldn't take them at first, but after some initial protest, I eventually accepted the gifts, and the rest is history.”

“I think the video has captured the inspiration of this song ‘The Winner Takes it All’ by ABBA - like a game of high-stakes poker and not being afraid to go all-in, taking that chance and betting on the real you,” says Kevin. “Thank you, MargOH!, for agreeing to make the video and delighting audiences for many years with your cabaret performances. Thank you also for helping me start the reconciliation process with my now wife all those years ago!”

Concludes MargOH!, “I’m so happy it’s being released during Pride because the song and video captures the past, the present and hope for the future and we all need that right now. It’s like Judy Garland once said, ‘Well, we have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy, and maybe, next year at this time we'd like each other a little more’.”

PEOPLE Every Day Podcast Exclusive: Ty Herndon Recalls His Mother Buying Him a Coffin After He Relapsed on Crystal Meth: 'She'd Paid for My Funeral'

Ty Herndon wants to make a comeback in Nashville. Another one. "It's possible," says CMT host and critic Cody Alan, who's heard Herndon's new album, Jacob, out July 15. He says Nashville is a more forgiving town these days — especially if you've got a good song. "I've always thought that a great three minutes can save anybody."

Herndon, now 60, needs a little bit of saving. Over the 27 years since his debut album — which spawned five No. 1s — he's bounced in and out of Nashville, on and off the charts, and in and out of rehab. He's married two women, one man, has come out of the closet, relapsed three times, and has battled crystal meth addiction for the better part of three decades. Along the way, he's become a cautionary tale. The Ty Herndon story, the way it's told in Nashville, is almost apocryphal. The morning of my interview with Herndon, I told someone in my Nashville hotel I was interviewing him. "Oh, gosh, Ty Herndon. Man, what a voice. Such a shame. I thought he died." (Google asks the same question, actually.)
