This Shining Night: Denver Gay Men's Choir's Holiday Concert December

Denver Gay Men’s Chorus’s Holiday Concert, “This Shining Night,” will take place Friday, December 17, 2010 and Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at L2 Arts and Culture Center (1477 Columbine Street at Colfax Avenue) in Denver, and Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew United Methodist Church (3350 E. White Bay Drive) in Highlands Ranch.

 Among the highlights of DGMC’s Holiday Concert will be Morten Lauridsen’s moving setting of James Agee’s poem, “Sure on This Shining Night,” Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s “Ring Out, Wild Bells,” and a spirited version of the Yiddish children’s song, “Bidi Bom.”

The second half includes secular selections: “Santa Got a Tummy Tuck,” Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters' classic “Mele Kalikimaka," and a memorable medley, “Christmas on Broadway.”

The Denver Women’s Chorus small ensemble, “Take Note!,” under the direction of Joy Jenkins, will be special guests at the Holiday Concert; DGMC’s small ensemble, “Sing Out, Louise!,” will also perform selections.

Denver Gay Men's Chorus auditions

The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus (DGMC) will hold auditions for new members during the week of September 12, as well as returning members who have been gone for more than two consecutive concerts.

Auditionees will be invited to “Audition Us” for the first half of our September 12 Rehearsal; you must have contacted DGMC prior to the September 12 Rehearsal.

Auditions usually consist of your singing something familiar, like “America” (AKA “God Save the Queen”) or “You Are My Sunshine” (AKA “Sie sind mein Sonnenschein”), checking your vocal range, and testing your note-matching abilities.

The Chorus regularly rehearses Sunday evenings at Christ Church United Methodist at 690 Colorado Boulevard (Colorado Boulevard and Seventh Avenue) from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Hollywood Confidential with the Denver Gay Men's Chorus

Denver Gay Men’s Chorus’ Spring Concert “Hollywood Confidential” will take place Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church at 1980 Dahlia Street at Montview Boulevard in Denver, and Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3350 White Bay Drive in Highlands Ranch. Tickets are $22 (adults), $20 (seniors over 55), $16 (students); children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Tickets for “Hollywood Confidential” and all RMAA events may be purchased at Wild Flowers at 12th Avenue and Madison in Denver, at Poor Richard’s Bookstore at 320 N. Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, and at the Rocky Mountain Arts Association website www.rmarts.org. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the concert at venue locations.

World AIDS Day Concert with Denver Gay Men's Chorus

The Boulder County AIDS Project and the Denver Gay Men's Chorus will present a World AIDS Day Concert on December 1 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder.

The DGMC will join together in song with AIDS groups around the world in remembering those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS and creating a force to end HIV/AIDS.

The groups will also have an AIDS memorial at Art and Soul (between 16th and 17th on Pearl) and an all day presence on the Pearl Street Mall in front of the Courthouse. Visit www.bcap.org for more information.

Let it Ring! Let it Swing! Let it Snow!

The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus Holiday Concert “Let it Ring! Let it Swing! Let it Snow!” will take place Saturday, December 5, 2009
at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3350 White Bay Drive in Highlands Ranch and Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church at 1980 Dahlia Street at Montview Boulevard in Denver.

DGMC’s Holiday Concert’s special guests will be the Front Range’s premier handbell ensemble, the Rocky Mountain Ringers.

Auditions usually consist of something familiar, like “America” (AKA “God Save the Queen”) or “You Are My Sunshine” (AKA “Sie sind mein Sonnenschein”), checking vocal range, and testing note-matching ability.

The Chorus regularly rehearses Sunday evenings at Christ Church United Methodist at 690 Colorado Boulevard from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. If you are interested in auditioning, contact the DGMC at info@rmarts.org before September 12 and put “DGMC Audition” in the subject line.
