BCAP: Denver Metro Area Housing and Homeless Survey

In 2013, Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) saw a 50% increase in the number of homeless people seeking services compared to 2012.

Community data provided by the Denver Homeless Initiative shows that Boulder’s homeless population increased by 20% in 2013. Both the flood and the increasing number of homeless people in the community are putting a strain on Boulder’s safety net and forcing community agencies like BCAP to respond to basic needs more and more.

This month, BCAP is participating in the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative's 2014 "Point in Time" Survey. This collaborative effort surveys the homeless people in our community, to gain a "snapshot" of the individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers across the metro area will be stationed at the area's shelters, human service agencies, and food banks, as well as going out in teams with staff and trained peer interviewers to conduct the survey in locations such as parks, riverbed, parking lots and other places where they may find people who are not accessing shelters or services. BCAP staff will be conducting the surveys on-site with our homeless clients.

If you would like to volunteer your time or donate supplies, please visit www.mdhi.org for details.

World AIDS Day with BCAP

Over 7,000 people are infected worldwide with HIV everyday, with 33 million people currently living with HIV/AIDS. On World AIDS Day, BCAP honors the approximately 500 men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS in BCAP’s service area of Boulder, Broomfield, Gilpin, and Clear Creek Counties.

World AIDS Day reinforces the mission of Boulder County AIDS Project, which is twofold: “To provide support, advocacy, and education to those in our community who are infected with or affected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and to serve as an outreach and information center to prevent further transmission of HIV and the resulting Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).”

One-hundred percent of the funds raised at the World AIDS Day Concert will go to urgent client basic needs, including medical and oral health, housing, and food—as well as BCAP’s extensive HIV testing and prevention programs. Through the years, BCAP has helped thousands of residents affected by HIV and AIDS. In addition to assisting those living with HIV and AIDS, thousands of residents have benefited from the group’s rapid HIV tests—an important tool to help prevent the spread of the disease in the community.

Colorado Gives Day kick off party at JR's to benefit BCAP

Colorado Gives Day is a statewide, non-profit effort to raise $1 million, online, in 24 hours, on December 8th. There will be a kick-off party at JR's on December 7 beginning at 7pm.

Boulder Colorado AIDS Project is thrilled to be participating in Colorado Gives Day and is working hard to meet their goal of raising $30,000 in one day.

Dan Hanley, director of development at BCAP says, "We at Boulder County AIDS Project have set a goal to raise $30,000 in that 24 hours, something that we have never done. This is an incredible opportunity for us to show how vital our work is and how we and other HIV/AIDS groups can do so much more when we have the financial support of our community. BCAP has generous support from The Gill Foundation and The Brett Family Foundation in matching many of the donations, and we feel that our community will help us surpass our goal.”

Sounds like my kind of party: Carnival 2010 in Boulder

I'm just now hearing about this party but apparently it's been going on for a handful of years already. Bodypainting, nudity, and a benefit for BCAP?

Sounds right up my alley!

It's taking place this year on Saturday, February 20 at The Nomad Theater in Boulder. This is a 21-and-over private party so check out the Carnival 2010 website (site NSFW for partial nudity) and get on the guest list.
