NFL star: If Britney Spears can do it, why can't gays?

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has become one of the few professional athletes to speak out in favor of LGBT rights.

In a piece for The Huffington Post, Ayanbadejo asked, "If Britney Spears can party it up in Vegas with one of her boys and go get married on a whim and annul her marriage the next day, why can't a loving same-sex couple tie the knot?"

NewNowNext Awards 2009: RuPaul hosts, Britney Spears wins Always Next, Forever Now Award

Logo, the gay and lesbian-themed network from MTV Networks, pays homage to the pioneers of today who are transforming and defining tomorrow’s pop culture with the second annual “NewNowNext Awards” 2009.

Hosted by RuPaul, the world’s most famous drag queen, this year’s celebration will feature a number of special guests and performers including Britney Spears who will be honored with the Always Next, Forever Now Award. Given annually, this special award pays homage to beloved LGBT icons.

More after the jump.

Premiering on Logo and simultaneously streaming on LOGOonline.com Saturday, June 13 at 9 PM ET/PT, “NewNowNext Awards” 2009 will be taped at the Hiro Ballroom from The Maritime Hotel in New York City on May 20. This year's show will also feature appearances by Britney Spears, Vanessa Williams, Lance Bass, Robert Verdi, Wendy Williams, Lisa Lampinelli, Cheyenne Jackson as well as performances by Morningwood, The Fire and Reason, RuPaul, Jeffery Self & Cole Escola. Additional performers, presenters, and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed. Starting Today, Monday, April 27 visitors to NewNowNextAwards.com can review the nominees and vote for their favorites. Additional categories will be hosted on third-party blogs and sites including AfterEllen.com, AfterElton.com, ArjanWrites.com, Dlisted.com and PinkIsTheNewBlog.com.

Last year “NewNowNext Awards” brought you the electrifying and first-ever TV performance by Lady Gaga – before she began climbing the music charts and becoming the music and pop culture sensation she is today. In the same tradition this year’s awards will draw attention to what is new and next in music, film, television, online and pop culture. The “NewNowNext Awards” offers the LGBT perspective on what’s hot and hip in popular culture by honoring emerging and established artists and celebrities with such awards as Most Guiltiest Pleasure, Best Show You’re Not Watching and Brink of Fame: Music Artist. Unlike other awards shows, the “NewNowNext Awards” will not look at the year that passed, but will instead focus on what is up-and-coming in popular culture in 2009 and beyond. The 90-minute telecast will continue to put a spotlight on openly gay artists as well as all performers beloved by the LGBT community.

The groundbreaking “NewNowNext Awards,” is the first truly multi-platform awards show. Viewers will be able to experience different aspects of the event across a number of platforms, including on-air, online at the event’s principal website, on-demand and on mobile devices. The tent-pole event will also air on its sister websites AfterElton.com, NewNowNext.com and DowneLink.com and stream an online-only post show.

“NewNowNext Awards” 2009 builds on Logo’s acclaimed NewNowNext franchise, which includes a pop culture blog NewNowNext.com and two on-air music shows: “NewNowNext PopLab,” the home for party music in all its forms and “NewNowNext Music,” the ultimate music video destination of today's hottest artists and emerging musicians popular with the LGBT audience.

Logo’s inaugural show last year, hosted by Candis Cayne and Colman Domingo, honored Tina Fey, Janet Jackson, designer Christian Siriano (Project Runway,) Leona Lewis, Planet Unicorn and many more. The awards also featured performances and appearances by Lady Gaga, The Cliks, Dangerous Muse and Cyndi Lauper.

Only in America ...

... would Britney Spears top the president-elect in Google searches. But we can't really complain about the dumbing down of the country when Sarah Palin was number one internationally.

And now a word from Tura Satana

I'm having a geek fit right about now. Yesterday I posted about Britney Spears being considered for the Tura Satana part in a remake of 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' and today I get a message from Tura Satana herself squashing the rumor. From Tura Satana herself!:

"IT ISN'T SO! If Quentin ever put her in that role, he would have me to answer to."

So cool.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch 'Sugar Boxx':

Britney Spears is no Tura Satana

Dlisted.com says Quentin Tarantino is pursuing Britney Spears to play Varla in his remake of 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'

This cannot be. It must not.

The iconic role of Varla was originally played by the legendary Tura Satana. Tura is a real life Japanese-American internment camp survivor who was raped as a child and learned martial arts to get revenge on her attackers. She quit school at 15 and became a famous burlesque performer before being discovered by exploitation flick director Russ Meyer.

Tura is also my friend on myspace and one time she commented me saying, "You've caught the Eye of this Tiger!"

You read that right, Tura Satana quoted 'Eye of the Tiger' to me.

Britney Spears is no Tura Satana.

In the 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' clip below, Tura karate chops a man to death and calls him 'buster'.
