Palin opposes CPAC boycott over gay group

Sarah Palin said this week that the inclusion of gay conservative group GOProud at the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington should not be cause for some groups to boycott the event. Numerous social conservative groups have bowed out of the event, but Palin said she believed engaging with GOProud would have been a better idea.

"[T]he more information that people have the better," Palin told the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Dissecting Palin's retweet of Tammy Bruce

Political analysts are asking if Sarah Palin intended to send a signal about her feelings on LGBT issues by retweeting a message from conservative lesbian radio host Tammy Bruce

Social conservatives predict the former Alaska governor would risk alienating some supporters if she abandoned their positions on LGBT issues.

Palin daughters engage in anti-gay slurs on Facebook

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC)  today called on former Republican Vice Presidential candidate and current reality TV show star Sarah Palin to come out against the kind of anti-LGBT bullying sadly typified by her 16-year-old daughter’s posting on Facebook. According to media accounts, someone watching the new Palin reality show posted on Facebook that the show was failing. That prompted Willow Palin to respond by saying, “Haha your so gay. I have no idea who you are, But what I've seen pictures of, your disgusting... My sister has a kid and is still hot…. Tre stfu. Your such a faggot.” [sic]
“Anti-gay language by teenagers often starts at home – or at least, that’s where it should be stopped,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “It is our sincere hope that Sarah Palin will take this opportunity to speak out and condemn these kinds of insensitive remarks. It’s time for ‘Mamma Grizzly’ to teach all youngsters a lesson in decency and respect.”
Over the past year a number of teenagers have taken their own lives after being the victims of anti-gay bullying or harassment by other teenagers – most predominantly in the mid-teenage age range of Willow Palin. Many public figures, including President Obama, have addressed the issue, telling teenagers who are struggling with their sexuality and the bullying and harassment that sometimes goes with it, that it will get better. Sarah Palin has remained silent about the bullying-related suicides while publicly supporting political candidates who oppose equality and have anti-gay records including Christine O’Donnell in Delaware and Sharron Angle in Nevada.
“Sarah Palin has gotten away with not speaking up when the nation’s kids needed her most,” Solmonese said. “Sarah Palin, we ask you, will you use this as a teachable moment and tell all of our young people that this kind of language is simply unacceptable?”
To help stop the name-calling, bullying and gender stereotyping that so many students face every day, the HRC Foundation has developed the Welcoming Schools initiative. This innovative program gives elementary school administrators, teachers and parents across the country the tools to prevent bias-based teasing and harassment among elementary school students. It helps kids learn respect and tolerance early on, to prevent violence later in middle and high school.
“Willow Palin might not have gotten the kind of anti-bullying and name-calling lessons that could have made her think twice about this kind of language,” added Solmonese. “But there’s no reason her mother can’t use this moment as a way to reach out and make every young person feel valued and accepted.”

And while the New York Daily News reports that Willow's sister Bristol - currently on her way to winning this season of 'Dancing With The Stars' - has apologized for the homophobic comments, the conservative gay group GOProud has come to her defense saying, "...Apparently, it's only a homophobic slur when it comes from the daughter of a conservative female leader."

Sarah Palin's hometown newspaper claims Antichrist will be gay

The title says it all.

You've got to read this bit of nonsense to believe it. The good news is that the author of the piece, the pastor for the Independent Baptist Church of Wasilla, Ron Mamman is getting righteously owned in the comments. Be sure to check them out.

Only in America ...

... would Britney Spears top the president-elect in Google searches. But we can't really complain about the dumbing down of the country when Sarah Palin was number one internationally.

Sarah Palin is wrong

Sarah Palin sez: World Farm Animals Day? You betcha! National Coming Out Day? No way, Jose!

Gov. Palin has declined to issue a formal proclamation recognizing “National Coming Out Day,” in Alaska. Heartened by the Gov. Palin’s positive comments about gays and lesbians in the Vice Presidential Debate, Alaskans Together submitted a formal request to acknowledge the day, which is observed on Oct. 11 internationally by members of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered) communities and supporters.

“But I also want to clarify, if there’s any kind of suggestion at all from my answer that I would be anything but tolerant of adults in America choosing their partners, choosing relationships that they deem best for themselves, you know…,” said Gov. Palin during the debate.

“Governor Palin called for ‘tolerance’, and we hoped she’d show that type of leadership as Governor with this proclamation,” said Alaskans Together President Marsha Buck. “Coming out is a difficult and deserves recognition.”

So far in October 2008 Governor Palin has issued proclamations for: “Careers in Construction Week,” “10th Annual Christian Heritage Week,” “Biomedical Technician Week,” “Alaska Taiwan Friendship Week,” “World Farm Animals Day,” “Breastfeeding Awareness Month,” and “Grand Opening of Rilke Schule Day.”

“We were asking for the Governor to acknowledge and recognize the dignity of openly-gay Alaskans. We weren’t asking for a policy position, beyond simple acknowledgement.” Buck said.

Fox News at 9 transposes Vice-Presidential Debate report cards to show Palin as winner

At about 9:15 tonight, during an analysis of the Vice-Presidential Debate, Fox 31 News at 9 had a debate expert from DU on to discuss the debate and grade Biden and Palin's performances.

On the graphic that Fox News showed to accompany the segment report cards with pictures of the candidates, they transposed the grades the expert gave the two and made it appear that he scored Palin with two A's and a B and Biden with and A, B and C when it was really the other way around.

They made a very brief disclaimer at the end of the segment, saying basically, "Oops, we got those mixed up."

Seemed kind of fishy to me.

If not downright scurrilous.

Liveblogging Vice-Presidential Debates: Sarah Palin says 'nucular'

God, I hate that.

It's pronounced 'nu-clee-er'.

It's not that hard.

Stonewall Dems respond to Palin's sexual orientation statements

Yesterday, the National Stonewall Democrats issued the following statement in response to statements from Governor Sarah Palin that sexual orientation is a choice:

"John McCain chose a poor running mate, but he did not choose his sexual orientation. This is another example of why we need a pro-equality President like Barack Obama in the White House. For Governor Palin to suggest that individuals randomly choose their sexual orientation based on nothing but a whim is wrong and it repeats the talking points of the anti-gay special interests which continue to control the McCain/Palin campaign and the Republican Party. "
- Jon Hoadley, Executive Director

Governor Palin asserted that sexual orientation is a choice - a fact disputed by the majority of the scientific community - in a response to a question posed by Katie Couric of CBS News. Couric asked Palin to comment on her views regarding sexual orientation in light of revelations that Governor Palin's church continues to promote harmful "converstion therapy" for gay Americans.

Palin responsed: "But what you’re talking about, I think, value here, what my position is on homosexuality and you can pray it away, because I think that was the title that was listed on that bulletin. And you know, I don’t know what prayers are worthy of being prayed. I don’t know what prayers are going to be asked and answered. But as for homosexuality, I am not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult personal relationships. I have one of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay, and I love her dearly. And she is not my "gay friend," she is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn’t a choice I would have made. But I am not going to judge people."
CBS News released the interview portion quoted above late Tuesday evening.

A PATTERN OF DISCRIMINATION

- As Governor, Palin currently supports the efforts of radical activists to strip Alaska residents - specifically state workers - of the most basic domestic partner benefits.

- It was only when the Alaska Attorney General warned Palin that the Republican position of stripping domestic partnership benefits was unconstitutional (in light of a recent Alaska Supreme Court ruling) that Palin reluctantly vetoed legislation that would have defied the court ruling. Palin quickly moved on to support an alternate strategy to strip domestic partner benefits by placing an anti-equality amendment onto the state ballot.

- When Alaska had the opportunity to extend the freedom to marry to all Alaskan couples, Palin joined with radical efforts to scapegoat same-sex couples in order to scare voters on this issue. In 1998, Palin championed a constitutional amendment that deeply discriminated against same-sex couples in the Alaska constitution. The passage of this amendment, with the full support of Palin, kicked-off a wave of discrimination by encouraging Republicans and radical activists in other states to place similar measures on state ballots for the next decade to come.

An Anti-Equality Advocate from Day One
- The FIRST piece of legislation signed by Governor Palin was done at the request of radical, anti-LGBT groups.

- Palin squandered over $1.2 million of taxpayer money to place an anti-LGBT "vanity" vote before voters at the request of radical anti-LGBT activists - including Focus on the Family, the Concerned Women of America and the Family Research Council. The ballot language asked voters if they supported Republican efforts to strip existing benefits for LGBT state employees. As a non-biding initiative, the measure had no influence on Alaska law. As the only question on the ballot, Palin willingly wasted over $1.2 million in state money to promote the talking points of anti-LGBT activists.

MCCAIN/PALIN: A TICKET SQUARELY AGAINST EQUALITY

- The McCain/Palin ticket SUPPORTS anti-marriage amendments pending before voters in Arizona, California and Florida. In fact, when asked by the Family Research Council to star in an anti-LGBT ad in 2006, Senator McCain said yes. When Arizona voters rejected his pleas by defeating the initiative, Senator McCain again offered his name to efforts to once again place an initiative on the Arizona ballot in 2008.

- The McCain/Palin ticket OPPOSES the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

- The McCain/Palin ticket OPPOSES federal hate crimes legislation.

- The McCain/Palin ticket OPPOSES the Uniting American Families Act, which would unite families headed by same-sex couples where one spouse is an American citizen.

- The McCain/Palin ticket OPPOSES the repeal of the failed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue" policy which has dismissed over 12,500 servicemembers. At a time when our military asks Americans for their service, the McCain/Palin ticket believes that millions of Americans should be barred from offering their patriotism simply because of who they are.

National Stonewall Democrats is the national voice of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied Democrats, with more than 90 local chapters across the nation. Stonewall Democrats works to elect more pro-equality Democrats regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity - and to improve the Democratic Party on issues important to LGBT Democrats.

Gay Alaskans speak out about Sarah Palin

The Name Game

So Sarah Palin thinks homosexuality is a choice, leading to the age-old question--when did she choose to be straight--a question that she'll never answer because she doesn't do press conferences. And since this journalism major can't name a single news source that she's familiar with, she probably hasn't read any of the studies discounting her position on homosexuality.

But I guess we can't expect her to name any news sources--she can't even name her kids. Trig is a high school class I skipped so I could try out for Track. Bristol is a stomp. ("The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol when they do the Bristol Stomp." Okay, I don't even remember that song. My elderly friend Matt Kailey clued me in on it.)

Colorado is a battleground state

John McCain and Sarah Palin will be bringing their campaign to Colorado Springs (of course it had to be Colorado Springs) tomorrow. Colorado is considered a battleground state for the Presidential election.

Maybe they can drop by Focus on the Family while they're in town and Palin can fill out an application to be their new publicist. It would be a much more appropriate position for her than Vice-President of the United States.

I'm sorry, but somebody - anybody - with five young children, including a special-needs infant and a pregnant teenager, simply does not have the time or resources to be an effective Vice-President and a decent parent. And anybody who would think otherwise isn't fit to be either.
